The European Metrology Network (EMN) - SAVE THE DATE

EMN for Energy Gases Launch official opening event on 17 June 2019 (VSL, Delft the Netherlands)

The European Metrology Network (EMN) for Energy Gases provides measurement science expertise to society and industry to support the implementation of the energy transition to renewable gaseous fuels.

The robustness of the measurements performed to address the challenges caused by the introduction of new energy gases and by the fluctuations in renewable energy supply and demand is often compromised by a lack of traceable standards and by the absence of appropriate quality control, standardisation and procedures.

For example, setting physical and chemical specifications for renewable gases to enter existing natural gas grids or to be qualified for energy storage, assessing the quality and safety of hydrogen as a fuel for long distance transportation or ensuring reliable measurement of Liquified Natural Gas for custody transfer are urgent dilemmas.

By bridging the gap between research and end-user communities, and acting as a single point of contact for measurement science activities, the EMN for Energy Gases will facilitate a safe, reliable, and diverse energy network for the future.

This event targets energy gas producers and distributors, manufacturing industry, research and testing groups, regulatory bodies and policy makers that are dealing with the uncertainties of the energy transition and that need solutions to their new measurement challenges.

Amendment on Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Directive (AFID)

Published by the European Commission for feedback till 12.04.2019

The purpose of this technical amendment to Commission Delegated Regulation EU 2018/674 is to ensure that L-category vehicles and inland waterway vessels running on different alternative fuels such as electricity, hydrogen and gas are able to refuel across the EU at standardised recharging and refuelling points.  The Commission would like to hear your views. Draft acts are open for feedback for 4 weeks and published on this site. Feedback will be taken into account for finalising this initiative. Feedback received will be published on this site and therefore must adhere to the feedback rules.

This amendment is highly relevant to the hydrogen for mobility community, and will formally arrange that EN 17124 and EN 17127 will be the standards to be referred to via AFI.

Feedback to the EC can be given via this link (till 12.04.2019).
